What is CDPAP? Hire the Caregiver You Want!
Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) is a home care assistance program that lets Medicaid recipients, and their representatives hire and direct their own care.
CDPAP is a New York State Medicaid program. With this program, consumers can hire their family members as personal assistants.
Consumer Eligibility Criteria and Enrollment Process
Who is eligible?
- Must be eligible for Medicaid.
- Need help with activities of daily living.
- Be able to direct their own care.
Your family members can get paid to take care of you!
Who can be my caregiver?
- Anyone 18 years and older
- Relatives (including children and parents)
- Parent (for a child 21+)
- Friends
- Acquaintances
- Requirements for Caregivers: personal assistant/caregiver can qualify if legally allowed to work, and is not married to the consumer and not designated representative.
Special Program Benefits
CDPAP consumers can:
- Recruit as many assistants as you need to accommodate your needs and authorized hours.
- Hire anyone including your family members (except for spouses).
- Can receive not only custodial care but also skilled care such as insulin injections and medication administration.
